On Tuesday, Kunal Satyarthi, Advisor (Policy and Planning), National Disaster Management Authority, said: "Though inundation in Chennai and neighbouring areas due to the influence of Cyclone Michaung was a cause of concern, the Tamil Nadu government had done an enormous amount of work in preparing and responding to the crisis."

Casualties in the cyclone-ravaged areas have been minimal. And compared to the 2015 December deluge in Chennai, the infrastructure is now much more resilient, he said.

During a press conference after surveying the affected regions in Sholinganallur, Satyarthi stated, "Appointed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we are here to support the state government in expediting the recovery process."

In the course of his assessment, he noted the concerns of residents residing in proximity to lakes and canals, primarily regarding the escalating water levels. "Chennai, being a low-lying city, faced exceptionally heavy rainfall on the night of December 4, coupled with a high storm surge. Consequently, the canals and outlets were obstructed, preventing the water from draining into the sea," he explained..
