Chennai: Tamil Nadu MPs including Karti Chidambaram staged a protest since there was no allocation of funds for the construction of AIIMS, Madurai at the Parliament on Wednesday.
In a tweet, the office of Karti P Chidambaram said, "Condemning Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman who did not allocate the funds for the construction of AIIMS, Madurai in Budget 2023, Tamil Nadu MPs staged a protest in Parliament."
Many MPs including Karti Chidambaram and Su Venkatesan staged a protest with a brick saying AIIMS at the Parliament.
Earlier, Karti Chidambaram said, “I look forward to a time when the #UnionBudget is a nonevent. Just an annual administrative exercise. A mature economy needs policy stability, not constant tinkering. This hype & drama is so unnecessary! Just put it out on the website & do away with the reading.”

On Wednesday, Nirmala Sitharaman presented the last full-term budget of NDA 2.0 ahead of the Parliamentary elections in 2024. In the speech spanning 1 hour and 24 minutes, Sitharaman emphasized inclusive development, providing last-mile connectivity, infrastructure and investment. She also announced that there is no tax on income up to Rs 7 lakh.
Before the budget presentation, the Union cabinet gave the nod to the Budget 2023 after a meeting at the Parliament. Nirmala Sitharaman also met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan before presenting the Union Budget 2023-24. She was accompanied by MoS Dr Bhagwat Kishanrao Karad, MoS Pankaj Chaudhary and senior officials of the Ministry of Finance.
