Chennai: The sleuths from Central Bureau of Investigation are conducting raids on the residence of Karti Chidambaram at Nungambakkam in Chennai. Media reports suggest that the sleuths are raiding the place since they could not get access to a locked cupboard with files during the previous search.

However, there is no official statement from the CBI yet on the reason for the research.

In May 2022, CBI earlier raided properties of Karti Chidambaram in nine places including Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Gurgaon and Sivaganga.

During the search, Karti Chidambaram said that he lost count on how many times his residence and offices have been raided. He also recalled that his offices were raided in 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2022.

However, after the raids, Enforcement Directorate and CBI filed a money laundering case against the Sivaganga MP in an alleged Chinese visa scam case. In this case, the central agencies alleged that Karti Chidambaram received Rs 50 lakh for illegally facilitating 263 visas for Chinese nationals to work in a Talwandi Sabo Power Limited project in Punjab.

Meanwhile, CBI during the same time also raided the house of Karti Chidambaram's father and former Finance Minister P Chidambaram in May 2022. After the search, Chidambaram took to social media and said, "This morning, a CBI team searched my residence at Chennai and my official residence at Delhi. The team showed me a FIR in which I am not named as an accused."

"The search team found nothing and seized nothing. I may point out that the timing of the search is interesting," he said.
