Last month, Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin in the Assembly said that Ambasamudram ASP Balveer Singh has been suspended for suspected custodial torture. However, he said, a proper investigation will be conducted and the guilty will not be spared.

IAS officer Balveer Singh has been accused of knocking out the teeth of suspects and crushing the testicle of a newly married man kept in the custody under Ambasamudram police limit. The issue came to light after two suspects who were picked up by the police and allegedly tortured by Balveer Singh released a video with the details of the third-degree torture.

Following this, Tirunelveli district Collector ordered a probe into the matter. Recently, reports suggested that the IAS officer during his tenure as ASP inflicted custodial torture even on minors.
