The first state conference of AIADMK after Edappadi Palaniswami took over as the general secretary of the party is set to be held in Madurai on August 20. Over 20 lakh AIADMK workers are expected to attend the conference.

According to ANI, “The first state conference of AIADMK after Edappadi Palaniswami was sworn in as general secretary of AIADMK is scheduled to be held in Madurai, Tamil Nadu on August 20.”

Further, AIADMK leader R Kamaraj said, "This conference will be a turning point for AIADMK. This conference is going to be held in a manner that confirms the return of the late former CM Jayalalithaa's rule. We expect more than 20 lakh AIADMK workers to attend this meeting. Edappadi K. Palaniswami will also decide on inviting alliance parties for this meeting."

Currently, AIADMK is part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Tamil Nadu.

The decision to conduct such a conference was taken during the party's executive meeting held in April.

While adopting a resolution in this regard, the executives noted that such conferences have been instrumental in the history of AIADMK even during the time of late leaders MGR and J Jayalalithaa.

Edappadi Palaniswami became General Secretary of AIADMK after J Jayalalithaa after a court nod. The General Secretary chair went to EPS after a long leadership tussle with former TN CM O Panneerselvam. Later, OPS along with his family members and supporters were ousted from AIADMK.
