Chennai: The tussle between AIADMK leaders Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) and O Panneerselvam (OPS) intensified on Monday with EPS camp holding a meeting at the party to remove OPS from various posts and OPS camp submitting a letter to Election Commission (EC) against the General body meeting and the meet held on Monday.

In the meet at HQ, EPS camp which has the support of majority of the cadre mulled removing OPS from the deputy leader of Opposition and treasure post in AIADMK. 


According to a report on The New Indian Express, currently, the AIADMK workers who are the frontrunners for the post of deputy opposition leader and treasurer include KP Munusamy, Dindigul Sreenivasan, RB Udhayakumar and Natham R Viswanathan.


In the meeting 65 office-bearers reported to the party headquarters on Monday, said AIADMK organising secretary Jayakumar and added that they have decided to hold the general council meeting as planned on July 11.

On holding the meeting without the permission of OPS, he said, as per rule 20A (vii) of the party's by-law when the coordinator or co-coordinator is relieved or new incumbents are yet to take charge, the office-bearers would continue to be in office and function without a pause.


Meanwhile, AIADMK spokesperson Kovai Selvaraj from OPS camp said that the meeting was invalid, as per a report on IANS.

Later, OPS camp also met to discuss the next course of action and then filed a petition before the Election Commission. The letter spoke on the issues with the general council meeting held on June 23 and the 'illegal' meet held at HQ on Monday.
