Chennai: AIADMK Kanchipuram Councillor candidate Janakiraman died by suicide on Thursday. Janakiraman was actively campaigning to woo voters and even Opposition leader Edappadi K Palaniswami was campaigning for Janakiraman at Kanchipuram on Wednesday.

According to a report on ABP Nadu, Janakiraman, 36, the son of Venugopal, started working for AIADMK for a long time now. After seeing his efforts, AIADMK gave him a seat for the 36th ward in the urban local body elections that are set to take place on February 19.

Janakiraman also filed his nominations and started campaigning. He went to places where AIADMK lacked support and tried to woo voters of other parties.

However, Janakiraman was found dead on Thursday. Based on the preliminary inquiry, the police said that he killed himself. Yet, the reasons are completely unknown.

The police are inquiring whether there were any abatement efforts or he killed himself due to the fear of losing the elections.

Earlier, a DMK functionary who was about to be fielded as the candidate for local body polls was murdered at Madipakkam in Chennai. Later, the probe revealed that the candidate was murdered due to a property dispute.
