Chennai: The bylaw proposing dual leadership of AIAMDK has expired, said former Minister CV Shanmugam on Friday. He also said that as per the by-laws of the party, the coordinator and co-coordinator can only serve for a period of five years and it has come to an end.


Addressing the press on Friday, former Minister CV Shanmugam said, "The bylaw proposing dual leadership which passed in 2017 and 2021 was not placed for approval in the general council meeting on Thursday. Hence, the bylaw has expired and the posts of the leaders have also expired."


"Therefore, O Panneerselvam is only the treasurer and Edappadi Palaniswami is the secretary of the party," he said.

CV Shanmugam also said that the coordinator and co-coordinator can only serve for five years as per the by-laws of AIADMK and the five-year period has ended. From the time, the election for the post of coordinator and co-coordinator was announced on December 2, 2021, the posts have also become vacant.


At the general council meeting, CV Shanmugam said, "The meet was held on Thursday with the approval of the former coordinator of AIADMK O Paneerselvam. Hence, how can the meet be called illegal?"

Meanwhile, O Panneerselvam moved the Election Commission seeking a stay of AIADMK general council meeting scheduled on July 11, 2022 and against the appointment of Tamilmagan Hussain as the presidium chairman of the party.
