Chennai: Indian actor and filmmaker Pratap Pothen was found dead at his apartment at Kilpauk in Chennai on Friday. The actor was 70 years old at the time of his death.



However, the reason for his death is yet to be ascertained.


According to a report on Mathrubhumi, Pratap Pothen acted in 100 films in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi in a career spanning 44 years. He has also directed 12 films. 


Some of his prominent roles feature in movies including '22 Female Kottayam', 'Uyare', 'Bangalore Days', 'Varumaiyin Niram Sivappu', 'Panner Pushpangal'. 


The actor was active on social media even hours before his death. He also spoke about death in some of his recent posts on Facebook.


In a post, Prathap Pothen quoted John Donne's saying that goes by, "Death be no proud, though some have called thee. Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so; For those whom thou think'st thou dost overthrow. Die not poor death nor yet canst thought kill me."

Meanwhile, Pratap Pothen who was born on August 13, 1952 completed his education at Madras Christian College. 


He married actress Radhika in 1985 but got separated within a year. Later, he remarried Amala Sathyanath in 1990. The couple has a daughter Keya. However, they divorced due to indifference after 22 years in 2012.
