Six people, including a nine-year-old and a woman, were killed in a car and a truck head-on collision in Tamil Nadu's Trichy district in the wee hours of Sunday. Meanwhile, three people were injured in the accident. The injured were taken to Trichy Government hospital for treatment. Four men and a woman were the other deceased, police said, adding three injured persons have been admitted to a government hospital.
"Six people including one child and a woman killed whereas three were injured after a van collided with a lorry on Trichy-Salem NH near Tiruvasi in Trichy District in the early hours. All the injured were shifted to Trichy govt hospital and dead bodies sent for autopsy," Trichy SP, Sujith Kumar said as quoted by news agency ANI.
The accident between the van and truck happened as the latter, which was carrying wooden logs was travelling from Trichy to Karur collided with the van at around 3.50 AM on Sunday. The Omni van was heading towards Kumbakonam with nine passengers, who were going for a temple visit from Edapadi.
Police rushed to the spot after receiving the information and launched a probe into the matter.
