2 Killed In Manjuvirattu Events In Tamil Nadu

During the event, a bull suddenly hit Ganesan on his chest. Following this, he was rushed to the hospital but he died on the way to the GH. 

Chennai: Two spectators died in two separate majuvirattu events conducted in Sivanganga and Pudukkottai as part of the Pongal festivities on Wednesday. The death of the two spectators also came at a time when a bull tamer and a spectator were killed in two separate jallikattu events on Monday. 

According to Times of India, a spectator Ganesan (58) of Pudukottai district was viewing the manjuvirattu held at K Rayavaram near Ponnamaravathi in Pudukottai district. During the event, a bull suddenly hit Ganesan on his chest. He was immediately rushed to the hospital. However, he died on the way to the hospital. 

Another spectator died in the manjuvirattu at Siravayal. The spectator identified as Bhoominathan (52) of Sukkampatti in Madurai came to Siruvayal to watch the event. However, he was gored to death while watching the manjuvirattu outside the arena. He was rushed to Karaikudi Government Hospital but he died due to the injuries. 

Manjuvirattu is a traditional sport where bulls are let in a vast area for the players to tame them.  In some cases, currency notes are tied to the neck of the bull which the participants can take. However, Jallikattu is a traditional sport where bulls are released one by one through 'vaadivasal', an entry point in the arena, for players to tame them. 

In the past four days, four deaths have been reported in the bull-taming sport.

Meanwhile, the jallikattu in Alanganallur took place without any major untoward incidents on Tuesday. In Alanganallur, a tamer Poovanthi Abi Sithar of Sivaganga district won CM's prize for taming the most numbers of bulls.

However, over 22 people suffered injuries in the Jallikattu. 

The event was flagged off by Tamil Nadu Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Udayanidhi Stalin on Tuesday in Madurai district.
