RG Kar Medical College Murder: The midnight protests against the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in the RG Kar Medical College in West Bengal's capital city, Kolkata, which were intended to be peaceful, turned violent after "outsiders" entered the college premises and vandalised the property.
Several videos and images of the violence surfaced on social media in which a mob of miscreants were seen entering the college and vandalising property. They also managed to infiltrate the protest and attack the demonstrators, including doctors.
The mob also damaged police vehicles. Videos from the premises showed chaos at the hospital premises, with people running to take cover as police fired tear gas to disperse the mob.
Several vehicles, a police outpost, and the CCTV monitoring station there were also damaged during the vandalism at RG Kar Hospital. Doctors at RG Kar MCH described to ABP Ananda how the emergency ward was ransacked and valuable medicines were destroyed and stolen.
The miscreants even tried to enter the MRI room and tried to destroy it. The doctors were terrified at the sudden attack and went into hiding within the building. They then sought intervention from the police and administration.
A total of nine people have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the vandalism at RG Kar Medical and Hospital in Kolkata during the midnight protest on Wednesday.
Protesters gathered at the hospital premises on Wednesday night to demand quick justice for the junior doctor who was raped and murdered at the facility on August 9.
