The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday dismissed a plea against the 12-hour 'Bangla Bandh' called by the BJP since the petitioner was debarred from filing public interest litigations (PIL) before the court in a previous order. Petitioner Sanjoy Das, who claimed to be a lawyer practicing at the high court, sought that the bandh be declared illegal.
On BJP's call for 12-hour 'Bengal Bandh', West Bengal LoP Suvendu Adhikari says "...The way 'step down CM' slogan was raised in the entire state, the way yesterday's unpolitical 'Nabanna Abhiyan' march was seen, and the way the effect of the bandh called by BJP was seen today, after that this is an attempt to divert the issue. This is a very technical matter...The assembly Speaker and the Assembly Secretary call the session of the Assembly. She (Mamata Banerjee) has destroyed our state, it has brought jungle raj and secondly, now the business rules of the Assembly were also abolished today. I salute our President, what she said today is the voice of the heart of the people of Bengal. We the people of Bengal are suffering, especially our daughters and sisters..."
Following President Droupadi Murmu's remarks, TMC leader Kunal Ghosh said: "The President has said that she is worried. Similarly, we are also worried, Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee are also worried. We also want justice. This is a social crime, but the Kolkata Police arrested the accused within 24 hours. Now, the case is being looked at by the CBI. Is the President giving statements because the incident happened in West Bengal?"
Union Minister and West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah
"I am writing to bring to your immediate attention towards the recent statements made by CM Mamata Banerjee during her address to the Student Wing of TMC today in Kolkata where she shamelessly incited gathering, declaring, 'I never sought revenge, but now, do what needs to be done.' This is nothing less than a blatant endorsement of revenge politics from the highest office in the state...I look forward to your prompt and decisive action to safeguard the interests of the citizens of West Bengal and uphold the constitutional values of our nation," the letter read.
The disciplinary committee duly constituted by the National President Dr RV Asokan, IMA HQs has unanimously decided to suspend the membership of Dr. Sandip Ghosh, Vice President, IMA Calcutta Branch.
"The disciplinary committee duly constituted by the National President Dr R V ASOKAN today suo moto considered the rape and murder of a postgraduate resident and the subsequent developments in RG Kar Medical College Kolkata. The undersigned along with the National President had also visited the parents of the victim in their home. They had put up their grievances against you in dealing with the situation as well as lack of empathy and sensitivity in handling the issue in appropriate manner befitting the responsibility held by you in your dealings with them. IMA Bengal state branch as well as certain associations of doctors also have demanded action citing the nature of disrepute brought by you to the profession on the whole. The disciplinary committee of IMA HQs has unanimously decided to suspend you forthwith from the membership of Indian Medical Association," Ghosh's suspension letter read.

Goa Medical College and Hospital has constituted a task force to ensure medical professionals' welfare and safety, including doctors, nurses, residents, interns, and student nurses.

Amid the BJP's call for Bangla Bandh, party leader Arjun Singh alleged that six rounds were fired at the car of Bhatpara BJP leader. According to the visuals caught on camera, some miscreants were seen opening fire on the car of local BJP leader Priyangu Pandey in Bhatpara.
BJP supporter Ravi Singh, who was riding the car, sustained injuries. Amid the 12-hour bandh called by the state BJP, allegations of firing on the car of BJP leader Priyangu Pandey were made.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called for a 12-hour Bangla bandh on Wednesday. The West Bengal unit of the BJP called a Bandh condemning the police action on protestors who took part in the march to the state secretariat Nabbana on Tuesday over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata's RG Kar murder case.
A public interest litigation was filed in Calcutta High Court to declare the 12-hour bandh called by the BJP illegal on Wednesday. BJP has called a 12-hour bandh on Wednesday. Nabanna said that this band will not be accepted.

A police personnel said that fifteen personnel of the Kolkata Police and 14 from the state police force were injured in the clashes. Police had to even resort to large-scale lathi-charge, unleash water cannons, and lob tear gas shells to disperse the protestors who marched from multiple converging points at Nabanna.
BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari alleged that over 160 protestors, including 17 women, suffered injuries in the police action. Condemning the action taken by police on protestors, BJP Bengal unit president Sukanta Majumdar called a 12-hour Bangla bandh on Wednesday.
State’s LoP Suvendu Adhikari also urged Governor CV Ananda Bose to "impose President’s Rule" in the state.
Following the call for bandh, Bengal government urged people not to respond to BJP’s 6am–6pm strike. "The government will not allow any bandh on Wednesday. We urge people not to participate in it. All steps shall be taken to ensure that normal life is unaffected," the chief advisor to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Alapan Bandopadhyay said.
The state government also issued a notification stating that all government offices would remain open and all employees, except those on leave, would have to report to office on August 28, failing which they would face show-cause for their unauthorised absence.
