New Delhi: Amid an ongoing political crisis in Rajasthan, a scuffle broke out between the supporters of chief minister Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot ahead of a feedback meeting with the party members in Ajmer, PTI reported citing police officials.
According to PTI, the meeting was scheduled at a place in the Vaishali Nagar area of the city, ahead of a meeting convened by AICC's Rajasthan co-in-charge Amrita Dhawan.
Christianganj Police Station SHO Karan Singh said that the supporters of both leaders had an altercation over the seating arrangement.
"It was an office bearers meeting where supporters of Ajmer Saras Dairy Chairman Ramchandra Chaudhary and RTDC Chairman Dharmendra Rathore had come. They started shouting slogans against each other, which led to a scuffle between them," Congress city president Vijay Jain said, according to PTI.
SHO Karan Singh stated that police present at the spot quickly swung into action and pacified the protestors. No major injury was reported, he added.
The rift runs deep in the Rajasthan Congress with Pilot attacking CM Gehlot for not acting against the alleged corruption of the previous BJP government.
Apart from a call for a high-level probe into corruption, Pilot recently spelled out two other demands – disbanding the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) and its reconstitution, and compensation for those affected by the cancellation of government recruitment exams after paper leaks.
Earlier in the week, he also threatened a statewide agitation if his demands are not met.
Gehlot and Pilot have been at loggerheads over the post of chief minister ever since the Congress formed the government in Rajasthan in December 2018. In July 2020, Pilot and a section of party MLAs who supported him declared an open rebellion, demanding a change of leadership in Rajasthan. It led to a one-month-long political crisis that ended after assurance by the party high command to look into the issues raised by Pilot.
