Uttarakhand Rains: Red And Orange Alert In Several Parts Of State From Today. Check Advisory

The Meteorological Department has issued 'Red' Alert and 'Orange' Alert from 11 to 14 August 2023.

As the northern state of Uttarakhand continues to witness monsoon fury, the Meteorological Department on Thursday issued a red and orange alert for various parts of the hilly state starting from August 11 to August 14, 2023, according to Uttarakhand police, news agency ANI reported.

Two persons were discovered trapped in the rubble of a fallen wall in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, after heavy rains caused havoc on the Himalayan state.

According to ANI, the local authorities requested assistance from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) in rescuing the two guys.

“SDRF was informed by District Control Room Rishikesh that a wall has collapsed near Chaurasi Kutiya in Laxman Jhula area. In which two persons are buried. SDRF team is required for rescue. On the above information SDRF rescue team reached the spot,” said the official statement, ANI reported.

The statement further reads: “It was told by the police officer from the spot that two persons were buried in the said incident, out of which one injured has been rescued. SDRF's search operation is on in search of another person.”

The wall had crumbled due to heavy rains in the area, which had caused serious waterlogging in the Dhalwala and Khara sectors. Several residences were also inundated in water, stranding the people.

A crew from the SDRF was dispatched to rescue the stranded, and they arrived late at night. The squad rescued roughly 50 individuals and transported them to safety using rafts.

Meanwhile, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami stated on Wednesday that the disaster control centre has reviewed the state's rain condition. He also recommended 'Char Dham' pilgrims to check the weather forecast before setting out.
