New Delhi: Lieutenant General (Retd) Gurmeet Singh took oath as the Governor of Uttarakhand. Gurmeet Singh took oath as the eighth governor of the state.
Chief Justice of the High Court RS Chauhan administered the oath of office and secrecy to him at Raj Bhavan. Many leaders were present at the swearing-in ceremony including State Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Cabinet Minister Satpal Maharaj, Ganesh Joshi, Dhan Singh Rawat. Chief Secretary SS Sandhu and all senior officials were also present at the swearing-in ceremony.
Lt Gen Gurmeet Singh is a retired Army officer. He served in the army for nearly 40 years and retired from services in 2016. During this time, he received 4 Presidential Awards and two Chiefs of Army Staff Awards.
Lt Gen Gurmeet Singh has also been director of military operations related to China affairs. He has done his schooling at Sainik School Kapurthala (Punjab) and graduated from National Defence College and Defence Services Staff.
Gurmeet Singh received two MPhil degrees from Chennai and Indore universities. Gurmeet Singh has done his PhD on 'Smart Power for National Security Dynamics' from Chennai University.
Talking to the media after the swearing-in ceremony, Governor Gurmeet Singh said, "In Uttarakhand, the land of heroes, I have got a chance to serve as governor. He said that for Uttarakhand development, everyone has to work together. At the same time, Uttarakhand has immense potential in the form of tourism, for which the state government is working better. And also, he saluted the martyrs of Dev Bhoomi and said that work will be done so that the girls of Uttarakhand also get a chance to join the army. Referring to the four dhams of Uttarakhand, the Governor said that it is the land of the brave as well as the land of the gods, I bow to all.
