Uttar Pradesh Man Immolates Himself Outside SP's Office In Shahjahanpur Over Land Dispute

Dispute over the sale of two goods vehicles emerged between Tahir Ali and Umesh Tiwari. Ali alleged that Tiwari had taken possession of his vehicles after lending him money, leading to confrontation.

New Delhi: A 45-year-old man from Khant, Uttar Pradesh, sustained severe injuries after setting himself on fire outside the Superintendent of Police office on Monday. The incident reportedly stemmed from his frustration over alleged police inaction regarding a dispute related to a vehicle.

In a video shared by Yadav, the man, identified as Tahir Ali, can be seen engulfed in flames outside the office premises, with police personnel and others attempting to extinguish the fire. Ali sustained burn injuries on his leg and was admitted to a hospital where his condition was stated to be stable, officials said.

According to police reports, a dispute over the sale of two goods vehicles emerged between Tahir Ali and Umesh Tiwari. Ali alleged that Tiwari had taken possession of his vehicles after lending him money, leading to a confrontation between the two parties. Despite Ali's complaint, he felt that the police had not taken adequate action in resolving the matter. Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Meena clarified that Ali and Tiwari shared an acquaintance and had business relations, as per PTI.

A Case Of Abetment To Suicide Should Be Registered: Akhilesh Yadav

Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Meena assured that after a thorough investigation, appropriate legal action would be taken against the guilty party. Following the tragic incident, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav called for the registration of a case of abetment of suicide. . In a post on X, he said, "In Shahjahanpur, the young man who was upset as his report of theft of pickup vehicle was not registered set himself on fire in front of the SP office, should be given the best medical care immediately."

"A case of abetment to suicide should be registered against those responsible for it and the strictest possible action should be taken. Even when the FIRs are so few, the NCRB report shows such a poor state of law and order in Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh added as per PTI.

"If every crime is reported, then the so-called 'Amritkal' in Uttar Pradesh would immolate itself out of shame", he said, targeting the BJP government.
