An MA student at Allahabad University in Uttar Pradesh got injured when a bomb that he was making in his hostel room exploded on Wednesday. The student, identified as Prabhat Yadav, injured his hand when the bomb exploded in his room in PC Banerjee Hostel, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Shivkuti), Rajesh Kumar Yadav, told news agency PTI.
Another student also suffered minor injuries in the incident. The ACP stated that the injured was admitted to SRN Hospital in critical condition.
It was not known immediately why the student was making the bomb. A case will soon be registered against Prabhat Yadav, reported PTI while citing the ACP.
Last year, Uttar Pradesh Police nabbed 11 students, including 10 minors, for making and hurling bombs at the gates of schools in Prayagraj in an attempt to prove their gang's supremacy. According to police officials, the students learned bomb making from online videos and social media platforms, as reported by the Times of India.
Officials said students also uploaded videos of the same on social media.

Police recovered two motorcycles, 10 mobile phones and two crude bombs from them. One of the students was sent to jail and the remaining 10 were sent to juvenile homes, Times of India reported.
In another similar case in 2019, police recovered material used in making crude bombs, a fake pistol and a large number of empty liquor bottles during raids at the Tarachand and PC Banerjee Hostels of Allahabad University. The raids took place after the murder of a former student Rohit Shukla at PC Bannerjee Hostel, as reported by the Hindustan Times.

According to a Hindustan Times report, around 20 motorcycles and a car were also seized from the location.
