UP News: The Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday announced its plans to revive and revitalise closed cinema halls and construct multiplexes in state districts lacking facilities. The plan also includes building new single-screen theatres.
In this regard, UP CM Yogi Adityanath has said that a grant scheme will be introduced for the reinvigoration of cinema halls. According to a UP government press release, Yogi Adityanth held a meeting with State Tax Department officials on Thursday and highlighted the significant role cinema plays in public entertainment.
During the meeting, the UP CM pointed out that with evolving technology, many of the state's old single-screen theatres have either shut down or are struggling financially.
"The state government should bring forth an incentive scheme to revive these cinema halls,” the Chief Minister said, as per the press release.
"This initiative will not only ensure easy access to entertainment for the public but also boost investment and generate employment," he further stated.
CM Adityanth also asserted that the scheme should incentivize investors to develop commercial complexes and small-capacity theatres on closed or operational cinema sites, reopen closed theatres, and build new single-screen theatres for both commercial and non-commercial activities.
The UP CM also suggested adopting a practical approach to relax the minimum seat requirements for cinema halls to create favourable opportunities for investors. He recommended incentives such as grants and other investment promotion programmes for the project. In districts that already have multiplexes, if new investors want to build more, they should also receive grants, he added.
As per the release, the UP CM instructed the State Tax Department to quickly prepare an incentive plan by talking with investors and other stakeholders in this sector.
New Plan Should Include Provisions To Encourage Investors To Build Multiplexes: CM Adityanath
The UP Chief Minister said that in today's times, there has been a rapid growth in the culture of multiplex cinemas. "Currently, there are no multiplexes in 39 districts of the state, and 10 districts do not have any single-screen or multiplex cinemas. The new plan should include provisions to encourage investors to build multiplexes," he stated.
