One person lost his life and 13 were injured after coming in contact with a live electric transmission wire during a 'Muharram procession' in the Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh. The incident took place when some people were carrying out a procession in the Gardaha village of the district.


The 'tazia' came in contact with a 33,000-volt overhead cable that resulted in the death of one person on the spot, police told India Today. 





A team from the local police station reached the spot soon after receiving an alert about the incident. All the injured were rushed to a nearby medical facility for treatment. Later, out of those, 9 injured people were referred to Shahjahanpur District Hospital.

Speaking about the incident, DSP Arun Kumar Singh of Lakhimpur Kheri Police said: "A 'tazia' touched a high voltage wire in the Mohammadi area, following which 13 people were injured. All the injured were admitted to the Community Health Centre (CHC). There is no situation of law and order on the spot."


In a similar incident in Bihar's Araria district, at least 14 people were injured by electrocution during a Muharram procession in the Pipra Bijwara area, according to police. The incident took place when the procession was moving through an open field, and a part of the tazia touched a high-tension electric wire.


In another incident, one child lost his life and 14 people were injured after a balcony fell while they were watching the Muharram procession on Wednesday at the Sakrava PS area in the Kannauj district of UP.




Speaking about the incident, Kannauj SP Amit Kumar Anand said, "A Muharram procession was taken out in the PS Sakrava area. Around 6:30 in the evening, a large number of people had gathered at a house and its balcony fell in which 14 people got injured and one child lost his life. Treatment of the injured people is going on."
