New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh police on Thursday said that it has initiated a probe into a hate speech incident reported from Sitapur wherein a man allegedly delivered rape threat targeting Muslim women.
A video of the incident is being shared widely on social media. In the video, the man appears to make provocative statements on communal lines as the crowd shouts "Jai Shri Ram."

As per Mohammed Zubair, co-founder of fact-check website AltNews, the man in the video is a local mahant in a small town called Khairabad.
In the video, the man addressing the locals can be heard issuing a threat that if a Muslim harasses any girl in the area, he would kidnap Muslim women and rape them publically.
He also claims a plot to murder him, alleging that a sum of Rs 28 lakh has been taken for this.
According to AltNews' Mohammed Zubair, the video was shot near a mosque in Sitapur's Khairabad on April 2.

Taking cognisance of the matter, Sitapur police wrote: "Investigation by The Additional Superintendent of Police North is underway. Based on the facts and evidence received, legal action will be ensured as per rules."
Meanwhile, reactions to the video continue to pour in as social media users continue to express shock and disgust over the statements made.
