Congress workers in Uttar Pradesh staged a protest against the controversial remarks made by Bharatiya Janata Party leader Anurag Thakur in the Parliament session on Tuesday. During the protest, the workers were supposed to burn an effigy of Thakur in Sitapur, when the police officials snatched it and ran away with it.


A video of the incident has emerged on social media that has gone viral now.


In the video, scores of Congress workers can be seen, who had gathered amid heavy rain, to burn the BJP leader's effigy. A chaotic scene erupted when the police officials arrived at the scene and seized the effigy.


Both police and protesters stumble and fall to somehow take control of the effigy.


After a prolonged struggle, the police officials manage to snatch away the effigy, to prevent the protesting workers from burning it.


The visuals also show bystanders watching as the confrontation unfolded on the street. Ultimately, the police officials manage to overpower the protesting Congress workers, and run with the effigy inside a police post, situated at the intersection. 






The video was posted by an X user from a handle 'FabulasGuy' and has garnered 108.4k views in a few hours.

BJP leader Anurag Thakur had taken a vielded jibe at Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi over the issue of caste census.


A row erupted after Thakur said that those whose caste is not known talk about caste census.


Following this, Rahul Gandhi said that Thakur "abused and insulted" him in the House.


Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav also lashed out at Thakur for asking Rahul Gandhi his caste.


Miffed by this, the Congress workers in UP's Sitapur had decided to stage a protest against Thakur.
