Uttarakhand: In its weather forecast for today, the India Meteorological Department issued a red alert for extremely heavy spell of rain in seven districts of Uttarakhand. The weather department has warned that these districts are very likely to receive intense rainfall in the next 24 hours.


These districts include Dehradun, Champawat, Haridwar, Nainital, Pauri Garhwal, Tehri Garhwal, and Udham Singh Nagar.


IMD in its forecast stated: "Heavy to very heavy rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, very intense to extremely intense spell of rain likely to occur at isolated places in Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, and Champawat districts of Uttarakhand."


Issuing a yellow alert for remaining districts, the weather department stated: "Heavy rainfall with thunderstorm, lightining, intense to very intense spell of rain likely to occur at isolated places in remaining districts of Uttarakhand."

Weather Forecast For Next 5 Days


For August 1-2, IMD has issued an orange alert in view of "heavy to very heavy rain / Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning / intense to very intense spell of rain (Isolated places)."


An orange alert has been issued for Champawat, Nainital, and Udham Singh Nagar on August 1, and for Bageshwar on August 2. Meanwhile, a yellow alert has been issued for Almora, Pithoragarh on August 1- 2, and in Champawat, Nainital, and Udham Singh Nagar on August 2. 


Thereafter, on August 3-4, the weather department has forecast,"heavy rain / Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning / intense to very intense spell of rain (Isolated places)."


A yellow alert warning has been issued by IMD for Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Almora, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, on August 3-4.


In view of the warning for heavy rainfall in the region, the Uttarakhand police also shared the IMD forecast and requested locals and tourists to remain cautious. It also asked the people to travel according to the wetaher and stay updated with the weather-related information regularly.






21 Kanwariyas Stranded In Rain-Hit Tehri Rescued By SDRF


A group of Kanwariyas were stranded in the rain-hit Tehri district on Sunday night, while they were returning from Gangotri.


21 Kanwariyas lost their way while returning from Gangotri late on Sunday night and got stranded at Jhala, about 3 km away from Budhakedar, SDRF Sub-inspector Dipak Joshi said. All of them were rescued safely by the SDRF personnel.


Joshi stated that the rescue operation was difficult as it was dark and raining, as a result of which the roads were damaged.


After their rescue, the Kanwariyas were taken to Budhakedar bus stand, where they were provided food and lodging.


In the last few days, several roads have been damanged in the state due to landslides triggered by heavy rain.
