BJP MP Varun Gandhi on Saturday took a jibe at his own party's government in Uttar Pradesh over the suspension of the said license and said that the resentment against a name should not spoil the work for lakhs of people. The hospital is named after his father. Uttar Pradesh Health Department suspended the license of the hospital for over a week and put a halt on its out-patient department as well as emergency services after the death of a patient. The state government has also ordered a probe into the incident.
"450 employees of Sanjay Gandhi Hospital and their families are not the only concern, but also the general public of the state as hundreds of them are treated every day. Only the 'vision of humanity' can do justice to their suffering, not the 'arrogance of the system'. Lest resentment towards 'name' spoil the 'work' of lakhs," he remarked in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Samajwadi Party MLA Rakesh Pratap Singh joined the ongoing protest of the employees and staff of Sanjay Gandhi Hospital on Saturday in Uttar Pradesh. Singh reached the spot and participated in the protest for around an hour along with several village heads and other supporters.
While talking to the media, Singh said that the action taken against the hospital was done due to 'malice' and that any medical facility or institution should be kept away from politics. The staff is protesting against the suspension of the licence of the hospital over the death of a woman due to alleged negligence during treatment, reported news agency PTI.
Singh told the media, "I condemn this action and I also declare that I will participate in their fight until the employees of Sanjay Gandhi Hospital do not get justice and the hospital is not unlocked."
Earlier on Friday, he met with the district magistrate against the suspension of the hospital's license. During the meeting, he submitted a memorandum which was addressed to the Governor. In the memorandum, Singh warned of starting a mass movement in the entire district if the services at the hospital weren't resumed within seven days.
Meanwhile, a BJP delegation led by party leader and Amethi District Panchayat president Rajesh Agrahari visited Ram Shahpur village and called upon the family members of the woman who lost her life at the hospital due to alleged medical negligence. He handed over the cheque of Rs 1 lakh to the family of the deceased, Divya Shukla. While giving the cheque, he said that whatever happened to Shukla was very sad and worrying and added that strict action should be taken against the person responsible for this.
The hospital is run by the Delhi-based Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Trust. Congress leader Sonia Gandhi is the chairperson of the Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Trust, which runs the hospital. Her children, Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi are members of the trust, PTI reported.
