A man and a two-month-old girl died in their sleep when the floor of the basement of an under-construction building collapsed in Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow on Thursday midnight. Police officials told news agency PTI that 14 labourers also got injured in the unfortunate incident that took place near Kalindi Park. The deceased were identified as Mukadam, 30, who was a labourer and a girl named Aishya. 


Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Sayed Ali Abbas while talking to PTI said some labourers who worked at the said construction site and used to live in shanties in the basement of there were buried under rubble in their sleep. ADCP (East) Abbas said, "Some labourers who worked at the site used to live in shanties in the basement. As the floor collapsed, the labourers were buried under the rubble in their sleep."


A team of local police rushed to the spot right after the incident and began to search for any survivors that were left. Locals of the area also helped the police in the search and rescue operations, reported PTI. Teams of the fire department and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have also reached the spot to carry out the rescue operations.


All 14 people who got injured were taken to a nearby hospital where they are undergoing treatment, reported PTI. 


Earlier on September 16, five members of a family, including three children, were killed in Lucknow when they were fast asleep after a piece of their house's roof collapsed. Police officials told PTI that the incident occurred at Anand Nagar railway colony, which is part of the Alambagh police station area. 


DCP East Hridesh Kumar said, "The roof of a house collapsed in the Old Railway Colony of Anand Nagar area. Five members of the family were rescued from the debris and taken to the hospital where doctors declared them dead."
