12,358 Challans, Strict Action On Underage Driving: Noida Police Ramps Up Measures To Enforce Road Safety

The Noida Police have cracked down on underage driving, impounding 86 vehicles and issuing 12,358 challans. Parents of underage were also issued a warning of fines and cancellation of vehicle registration.

The Gautam Buddh Nagar Police have ramped up efforts to combat rash driving in the district and have imposed strict measures to nab the violators. Recently, the Noida police launched a two-day traffic enforcement campaign last week where it issued over 12,000 challans for various traffic violations and impounded several vehicles.

The tight measures remained in place this week too, where the sleuths have issued a strict warning to parents over underage driving.

The Gautam Buddh Nagar Police Commissionerate has issued a strict warning to parents about the operation of two-wheelers and four-wheelers by individuals under 18 years of age.

Last week, the Noida police impounded 86 vehicles and issued 12,358 challans for various traffic violations on Saturday and Sunday.

"On July 6, a total of 7,406 e-challans were issued and 47 vehicles seized," a police spokesperson said on Sunday. "On the second day, 4,952 e-challans were issued and 39 vehicles were seized," the police added, according to PTI.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Anil Kumar Yadav stated that the crackdown aimed to improve road safety and maintain a smooth flow of traffic, after directives from Police Commissioner Lakshmi Singh.

"The comprehensive enforcement action is part of the ongoing efforts by Noida Police to enhance traffic discipline and ensure safer roads for all commuters," Yadav said.

Today, the police have said that parents or guardians of underage drivers may face fines up to Rs 25,000, legal action, and cancellation of vehicle registration for 12 months if they violate the rules. The minor will also be barred from obtaining a licence until age 25, they added. 

Police Issue Warning Against Minor's Parents

The warning is part of an effort to promote road safety and ensure compliance with traffic regulations, the police said, citing several traffic incidents involving minors in Noida, Greater Noida, and other regions of the country.

In a statement released on Tuesday evening, the Noida Police stated that it is illegal and inappropriate for minors to operate any vehicle. "No parent should allow their underage children to drive two-wheelers or four-wheelers under any circumstances," TOI quoted police as saying.

The Gautam Buddh Nagar Commissionerate traffic police said they are committed to ensuring public safety, and have requested parents to prohibit their underage children from driving. They stressed that minors are strictly forbidden from driving.

"Parents and guardians are being cautioned not to allow their children to use two-wheelers or four-wheelers. The traffic police will be conducting rigorous checks as part of this enforcement campaign. Any violations detected will be met with strict action under Section 199A of the Motor Vehicles Act," the police said.
