A student at a private school was allegedly beaten unconscious by his teacher over incomplete homework in Uttar Pradesh’s Raebareli.

According to an IANS report, the Class 10 student suffered multiple injuries, including a broken tooth, in the alleged assault. As the teacher thrashed the boy, he collapsed on the floor, after which the former reportedly fled the scene.

The other students then informed the principal, who rushed the boy to the hospital.

The teacher, Mohammed Asif, who taught science subjects (chemistry and physics), was arrested on Wednesday.

IANS reported Salon Station House Officer (SHO) J.P. Singh as saying that the homework was assigned in April before the school closed for the summer vacation. On Tuesday, when the student reached the school, the teacher asked him about it.

The police said, based on the father’s complaint, that the student told the teacher he couldn’t complete his homework due to some personal issues. The teacher then reportedly lost his temper and thrashed the boy. “As a result, he fell unconscious. He suffered serious injuries on his mouth and face," Singh said, adding that the school has also initiated an inquiry against the teacher.

Student Suffers Partial Hearing Loss After Beating By Teacher

In a similar incident, a Class 10 boy suffered partial loss of hearing after allegedly being thrashed by his teacher in Ballia. In his police complaint, the boy's father Praveen Kumar Madhukar has alleged that his son was beaten up by mathematics teacher Raghavendra for talking to another student during class, Ubhaon police station SHO Vipin Singh said.

Raghavendra allegedly slapped the boy several times near his ear, according to the complaint.

The complainant added that his son's right eardrum had burst due to the injury and he was facing difficulty in hearing.

Based on the father's complaint, a case under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt) of the Indian Penal Code was registered against the accused teacher on Saturday, the police said, adding that further probe is on in the matter.
