Amid the scorching heat in Noida, the city's residents have faced significant power cuts in the last few days. The temperature in Noida has been hovering around 42 degrees to 45 degrees, making it unbearable for the residents to live without electricity. The frequent power cuts have resulted in hour-long failures. Over the last few days, the city's power demand has been recorded at around 1,600MW, up from 1,200-1,300MW recorded in the first few weeks of the month when unseasonal showers helped staved off the mercury spike. Last year, too, the power demand ranged between 1,500-1,600MW in mid-May, as reported by The Times of India.

Earlier on Tuesday, power officials said there was no shortage in supply but the peak demand is likely to cross the previous year's June peak of 2,000MW. The officials pinned the outages on transformer snags, worn-out cables, and internal infrastructure faults, according to TOI. RWAs and citizens from different sectors have raised complaints about it but the authorities don't seem to be bothered by the plight of people. Many people took to Twitter to raise their concerns about the power cuts and the problems faced by them.

Tagging Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation, a user named Akash Kaushik wrote, “No power last 3 hour at noida sector 40. This is called no power cut zone. There is no electricity last 3 hours. Nobody is attended the call in sector 39 power House.”

“It’s the same situation in Sector-41. Such power cuts have become a common annual practice which the authorities don’t seem to care about. Sigh. It’s currently 3 AM and we’re here sleepless in the scorching heat praying for electricty to come back,” another Twitter user named Shruti Srinivas wrote, tagging Noida Authority and Noida CEO Ritu Maheshwari.

“This is Just 1 example, I live in Noida and have 20-30 such societies.. i haven't slept properly for weeks now, power cut at 12 night, at 5 in the morning, 9.30, then 12 pm, then 5 PM, if people complain about builders and their people are aggressive ,in the news for weeks but,” a twitter handle named KSD. He also shared a screenshot of a news report.

“@UPPCLLKO @myogiadityanath Sir we are in 2023 and we need basic 24 hrs electricity. Please do power cuts during day time if you need to, Not at night when we want to sleep well Sad to see power cuts at night in Noida You got so much investments in UP,” another Twitter user wrote.

A twitter user wrote, “@noida_authority, @CeoNoida There have been bad power cuts in all the sectors for hours at end and inverters are also conking off. When will this issue get resolved? People with health issues are facing trouble in the heat. Fans also stopped working now.”
