Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government is likely to take major action against more than 4,000 Madarsas in the state for non-disclosure of their source of income. There is a possibility that some concrete action might be taken on Wednesday. Notably, the state government did not take any action due to the ongoing Madarsa Board examinations.
The state government had conducted a survey of unrecognised Madrasas across the state last year. In the survey report, 8441 madrasas were found to be operating illegally. The government is mulling to take action in this regard.
During the probe into the funding of Madarsas, it was found that some of them get money from Saudi Arabia, Nepal, Bangladesh and some other countries. Madrasa operators were also able to provide all the documents related to funding.
After further brainstorming, it was decided that legal action should be taken against the Madrasas which have not disclosed their source of income. During the survey, it was also revealed that a whole network of unrecognised madrassas is spread in the districts adjacent to Nepal. As per the information, the action is likely to be taken against some unrecognised Madarsas and not all.
Earlier this year, the Yogi Adityanath government presented its budget for the year 2021-22 with an outlay of Rs 5,50,270 crore. The state government tried to take care of all sections of society including minorities.
While unveiling the current year's budget, State Finance Minister Suresh Khanna said "the government's goal is to ensure all-round development and make UP self-reliant."
A provision of Rs 829 crore was proposed for a scholarship scheme for minority students. Also, a proposal of Rs 479 crore was made for the modernisation scheme of Madrasas in Uttar Pradesh.
Reacting to the budget, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav on Monday said now the game of BJP is over in the state. "Khel khatam, paisa hajam" (game over, money usurped)," was his reaction when asked about the budget.
