New Delhi: A gas pipeline of a private company exploded in the Yamuna in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat, leading to the formation of a spout of water that shot up 25-30 feet into the air, news agency PTI reported. The incident took place in Chhaprauli area of Baghpat on Wednesday, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Subhash Singh said. However, no casualty has been reported, the official added.
The underwater gas pipeline of the Indraprastha Gas Limited Company suddenly exploded in the Yamuna River near Jagosh village. The explosion, showing a spout of water shooting up 25-30 feet into the air, was caught on camera, triggering panic among the local people.
The SDM said senior officials who reached the spot alerted the people in the area and also informed the gas company about the incident. The gas supply in the pipeline has been stopped, the official added.
Last month, a water pipeline of the Guwahati Jal Board burst, causing a flood-like situation at Rajgarh in Assam. The pipeline, which was recently installed, burst near Gauhati Commerce College in RG Baruah Road, leading to panic in the area.
While there were no injuries or casualties in the incident, reports said properties worth lakhs of rupees were damaged. The water flow was brought under control after a team from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority arrived at the spot.
Earlier in March, three people were injured following an explosion by a gas leak at a couple of houses in HSR layout, in Bengaluru, PTI reported. According to the report, the GAIL gas pipeline was allegedly damaged during the work undertaken by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), for which they were digging the road.
