An elderly couple was killed after their house was set on fire during a fight with the parents of their daughter-in-law who allegedly hanged herself. The incident occurred in the Muthiganj police station area in UP’s Prayagraj late Monday night. The police informed PTI, that the 27-year-old woman, had allegedly ended her life at her in-law's house.
After the woman’s parents received the news about their daughter's death, they reached the house along with other family members and got into a fight with the woman’s in-laws. Her parents accused them of murdering their daughter, hanging her body, and further alleged dowry harassment as the reason, IANS reported.
Prayagraj DCP (City), Deepak Bhukar, said that the police received a call late Monday night that a woman had committed suicide.
During the argument, some people set the house of the woman's in-laws on fire.
“Both, parents and in-laws were present there. When the police team reached the spot, the parents of the woman and her in-laws were fighting among themselves. Suddenly the house was set on fire,” he told IANS.
The police managed to rescue five people from the house, they also called the fire brigade which brought the blaze under control, as per the PTI report.
By 3 AM, the authorities were searching the burnt house, they found the bodies of the woman's father-in-law Rajendra Kesarwani, 65, and mother-in-law Shobha Devi, 62, SHO of Muthiganj police station Sunil Bajpayee told PTI.
Those injured in the fire included the woman's husband, Rajendra's daughter Shivani, and Lovely Kesarwani, the wife of his younger brother.
As per IANS, the woman’s body along with her in-laws' was sent for post-mortem. Police have also been deployed in the area to ensure peace.
