A woman and her daughter allegedly died by suicide by consuming insecticide in Uttar Pradesh’s Bhadohi, on Sunday. However, the woman’s son, who had also consumed the insecticide, is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.

According to PTI, Suman Tiwari, 42, and her daughter Komal, 22, who reside in Aria village, consumed sulphas —  a type of insecticide tablet — at their home, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Tejveer Singh said.

The incident is believed to have occurred around 10 am.

Family members rushed the three to a hospital in Prayagraj but Suman and Komal died at the hospital, according to PTI.

Family Had No Source Of Income

The police told the news agency that Suman’s husband Sunil Tiwari was mentally challenged, and the family had no source of income. This pushed them to take Rs 2.5 lakh in loans from several people, they said.

The people the family owed money would allegedly turn up at the house for recovery, PTI reported. Initially, the couple's eldest son, Yuvraj, was paying back the loan but he couldn't keep up with the payments and the lenders were allegedly pressuring the family, PTI reported.

Property Dispute Within The Family

The family was also embroiled in a property dispute, which led to an argument between Suman and her mother-in-law and sister-in-law recently, as per the news agency.

The bodies of the deceased were brought back to their village and police are investigating the matter, the ASP told PTI.

Suman’s brother Ashok Kumar has lodged a complaint, based on which a case was registered late in the evening against her mother-in-law Maharaji Devi and sister-in-law Saroj Devi under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
