Earlier, on July 28, 2021, Dhanbad additional district judge Uttam Anand died after being hit by an autorickshaw outside his colony when he was on his routine morning walk. The death had sparked fears about the safety of judicial officers in the country with then Chief Justice of India NV Ramana ordering the Jharkhand High Court to monitor the probe. A year later, a CBI court sentenced the auto driver and a helper to imprisonment till death.
