West Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar took a jibe at TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee on Saturday in the Kuntal Ghosh teacher recruitment scam case claiming that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's nephew approached Supreme Court because he is afraid. Majumdar remarked that Abhishek Banerjee can land in jail soon. These remarks come after the TMC leader moved the Supreme Court against the order of the Calcutta High Court allowing the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to question him in the case.
The West Bengal BJP chief further continued the attack on the Mamata Banerjee-led party by talking about the withdrawal of the Rs 2,000 currency note and how it would affect TMC. Talking to news agency ANI he said, "Common people are not worried, leaders like Mamata Banerjee are worried because their party's money is kept in such Rs 2,000 rupee notes. When Rs 2,000 note was introduced, it was done to deal with the shortage of notes due to demonetisation, because the larger the note, the more likely it is to become fake currency, small notes do not survive economically. Many TMC leaders have lost their sleep with this announcement, they will face a lot of trouble."
On Abhishek Bannerjee approaching the top court, Majumdar said: "In future, he (Abhishek Banerjee) has to go to jail, today or tomorrow, but he definitely has to go to jail. If he was not afraid, he would not have gone to the Supreme Court, but he is afraid, so he has gone to the Supreme Court."
The TMC leader's name cropped up in the case due to a complaint filed by Kuntal Ghosh, a local businessman and an accused in the alleged scam. According to a PTI report, Ghosh went on to claim that he was being pressured by central investigating agencies to name Abhishek Banerjee in the school scam case.
TMC's second-in-command was questioned by the CBI on Saturday for over nine hours. After the interrogation he said, “The net result is zero. Waste of my time as well as a waste of theirs. I answered all questions raised by the central agency. Earlier too, I had said that if they have any documents against me, they can hang me in front of everyone. But they have no evidence. So either those investigating me should resign or those who ordered them to interrogate me should."
