Three person have been missing after an old bridge collapsed in Uri in north Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday. The mishap occurred when the three labours were removing the old Gungal Bridge in the Uri area of Kashmir.


As per eyewitnesses, the labours were busy in removing the old bridge over River Jehlum in Gingal when suddenly they slipped down and fell into the river.





The missing persons were identified as Shakeel Ahmad Mir, Bilal Ahmad Reshi and Mohammad Aslam Chauhan, as per reports.




Rescue operation started in the area soon after the incident.

 

An official said that the incident happened when the labourers were dismantling the bridge. He said that while the bridge collapsed, the trio slipped and drowned in river Jhelum.

 

Meanwhile, in Himachal Pradesh, heavy snow and rainfall in the last two days have triggered more than half-a-dozen avalanches and landslides, leading to the closure of over 650 roads, including five national highways.

 

The flow of the Chenab was obstructed following an avalanche at the Dara waterfall near Jasrat village in Lahaul and Spiti. 

 

Fresh Snowfall in Kashmir

 

Fresh snowfall occurred in parts of Kashmir while rains lashed many areas in the plains, officials said on Friday. Few areas in the higher reaches of the valley, including Gulmarg, Tangmarg and Doodhpathri received fresh overnight snowfall on Friday.

 

Around 15 structures in Uri have suffered damage due to strong winds and landslides on Saturday evening. Several landslides, triggered by continuous rains, were also reported in part of Kashmir including Uri, leading to damages.


The inclement weather has resulted in shooting stones at various places along the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, leading to its closure for traffic. Meanwhile, a strong windstorm swept south Kashmir, damaging several structures in the Verinag area of Anantnag district, as per a report in PTI.
