BJP leader and former Nilgiris Member of Parliament (MP), M. Master Mathan, passed away due to age-related ailments at his residence in Coimbatore on Saturday. Remembering Master Mathan, the party paid tribute to his extensive contributions towards societal betterment and the upliftment of marginalised communities. He was 91 years old. 


Master Mathan served as a MP for two terms from 1998 to 1999 and 1999 to 2004.


Mathan was a distinguished leader of the Badaga community, indigenous to the Nilgiris district. His family confirmed that he passed away on Friday night at his residence due to health issues related to old age. He is survived by his wife, two sons, and a daughter. 


Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow over the demise of Master Mathan, stating he was deeply pained by the loss. 



Taking to X, PM Modi said, "The death of former Member of Parliament Mr. Master Madan is deeply saddening. He will forever be remembered for his social service efforts and work for the downtrodden. He also sought to strengthen our party in Tamil Nadu. My deepest condolences to his family and supporters. Om Shanti."

BJP national president JP Nadda said, "Deeply saddened to learn about the passing of former BJP MP Thiru Master Mathan Ji. He dedicated his life to the betterment of society and the upliftment of the underprivileged. His contributions to strengthening the party's roots and ideology in Tamil Nadu will always be remembered. His demise is an irreparable loss to the party.
