Karnataka Deputy CM Shivakumar Advocates For Mekedatu Project, Says 'May Good Sense Prevail On TN People'

The Mekedatu multi-purpose project advocated by Karnataka is a plan to construct a balancing reservoir near Kanakapura to supply drinking water to Bengaluru and generate 400 MW of power.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, during his visit to Chennai, reiterated the benefits of the Mekedatu project for both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, emphasizing that it would be more advantageous for Tamil Nadu. "The rain gods have favored both states, and I hope good sense will prevail among the people of Tamil Nadu. Mekedatu is more beneficial for Tamil Nadu than Karnataka," Shivakumar stated.

DK Shivakumar was in Chennai to visit Bio CNG Plant at Chetpet to inspect the solid waste management. After the visit, Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar said, "I came to Chennai with a team of more than 15 officials to inspect the solid waste management and see how the gas is produced, CNG is produced... We are very impressed with the cleaning facility running in Chennai. So I want to congratulate the government and the entire team. They have adopted a different approach which is a good learning for all of us... There is still a lot to learn. So I thought I would come here. So we have come to study the Chennai model."
