New Delhi: A day after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee blamed the BJP for the recent violence in Kaliaganj following the alleged rape and murder of a minor tribal girl, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari alleged that state police brutally killed a 33-year-old BJP worker at Kaliaganj. He claimed that "trigger-happy 'Mamata' police" raided the house of a BJP Panchayat Samiti Member and shot dead a Rajbangshi youth named Mrityunjay Barman.

Reacting to the incident, BJP President Sukanta Majumdar told ANI, "Ever since the alleged rape and murder in Kaliganj happened, police started atrocity on the BJP's vote bank (which comes from the SC community) in the northern part of Bengal on the orders of Mamata Banerjee. Police had gone there last night to arrest people and during this, they also shot a BJP worker. We will protest against this."

In a tweet on Thursday morning, Adhikari stated that the state of Bengal is currently facing a distressing situation of state terror, which he considers to be in its worst form.

Taking to Twitter, Adhikari wrote, "Trigger happy 'Mamata' police raided the house of a BJP Panchayet Samiti Member Bishnu Barman at 2:30 am midnight (April 27; 2023) but did not find him. They brutally shot dead a Rajbangshi young man named Mrityunjay Barman; 33 years old, S/O Rabindranath Barman."

Violence broke out at Kaliaganj in Uttar Dinajpur district on Tuesday after people set fire to Kaliaganj police station and torched several vehicles parked near it.

The incident took place after a protest march over the death of a tribal minor girl turned violent in Dinajpur.

He further added, "This is tyranny and state terror at its worst form and Mamata Banerjee is merry-making like Emperor Nero while the state is burning and sliding into a phase of civil unrest."

Adhikari emphasized that Banerjee should bear responsibility for this tragic incident.

"Last afternoon during a press conference Mamata Banerjee had declared a war against the people of Kaliaganj and within hours the police complied with her. She will have to take ownership of this brutal murder by the state. The people should rise democratically by raising their voice against such internecine violence and bloodshed. The people should rise democratically by raising their voice against such internecine violence and bloodshed." he added.

Meanwhile, Banerjee on Wednesday alleged that outsiders were brought to the state to carry out attacks on Kaliaganj Police Station.

She claimed that BJP was behind the incidents of vandalism.

"The BJP is carrying out hooliganism in Bengal. They are attempting to create disturbance in Bengal. We will defeat this conspiracy to create anarchy," she told reporters.
