New Delhi: Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut, who is in jail on charges of money laundering, wrote a letter to his mother in the sessions court on August 8, which was tweeted from his Twitter handle on Wednesday. Sanjay Raut wrote a letter to his mother, saying that there was pressure on him to "betray" his party and that he landed in jail as he did not heed it.

Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut, jailed in the Patra Chawl scam, has written a 4-page letter to his mother. The letter has been mentioned from the raid of the ED to the toppling of the government.

"Like you, the Shiv Sena is also my mother. I had pressure to betray my mother (the party). There were threats not to speak against the government as it will prove costly. I did not pay heed to the threat which is why I am away from you," the letter, which was tweeted on Wednesday, said.

Raut was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) under the PMLA Act on July 31, after which he has been in jail. His bail plea is to be heard next on October 17.

Raut further added, "Mother, I will definitely come back. The soul of Maharashtra and our country cannot be killed so easily. Thousands of soldiers fighting for the country stand at the border and do not come home for months. Some never go home. I too cannot bow down to enemies of Maharashtra and Shiv Sena."

"Shiv Sena is like mother to me. I was pressured to be dishonest with my mother. There were threats asking me not to speak against the government. I did not pay heed to these threats. I am away from you today for this one reason. Don't worry though, Uddhav Thackeray and Shiv Sainiks will take care of you,'" reads the letter.
