New Delhi: Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Sunday announced four candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. Among the notable names put forward by the party are journalist Sagarika Ghose, party leader Sushmita Dev, Md Nadimul Haque, and Mamata Bala Thakur.


Taking to social media party posted on X, "We are pleased to announce the candidature of @sagarikaghose, @SushmitaDevAITC, @MdNadimulHaque6 and Mamata Bala Thakur for the forthcoming Rajya Sabha elections".


 "We extend our heartfelt wishes to them and may they work towards upholding Trinamool's enduring legacy of indomitable spirit and advocacy for the rights of every Indian, it further added.






Upper House Seats As Per States 


Last month, the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the elections for 56 Rajya Sabha seats across 15 states to take place on February 27. 


Uttar Pradesh has the highest count of retiring members, totaling 10, on April 2, 2024, as stated in ECI's press note. Meanwhile, Maharashtra and Bihar follow closely, with six members each retiring on the same date. West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh are set to have five members each retiring on April 2, 2024. Both Karnataka and Gujarat will bid farewell to four members each on April 2, 2024.

As per the press note, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha, and Rajasthan will each see the retirement of three members. While members from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are set to retire on April 2, 2024, those from Odisha and Rajasthan will retire on April 3, 2024. Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand will each witness the retirement of one member on April 2, 2024.
