In a demonstration against the alleged deterioration of law and order in Punjab, Youth Congress workers faced water cannons from the police on Sunday as they attempted to march towards the residence of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in the capital city of Chandigarh. The protesters, including several Youth Congress leaders, were met with resistance from police barricades near Punjab Congress Bhawan, as reported by news agency PTI.

As tensions escalated, the police employed a water cannon to disperse the crowd and prevent them from advancing towards the Chief Minister's residence.  Besides the use of the water cannon, multiple Youth Congress leaders were also detained, according to police officials cited by PTI.

Congress Protest An 'Ultimatum' To Bhagwant Mann Govt: Punjab Youth Congress Chief

Prior to the protest march, members of the Youth Congress staged a dharna, raising slogans against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in the state. Punjab Youth Congress Chief Mohit Mohindra took to social media platform X to voice his concerns about the perceived collapse of law and order under the AAP government.

Mohindra, in a series of posts, highlighted the Youth Congress's commitment to addressing the growing concerns about safety and security in Punjab. He stated, "We stand united against the tide of deteriorating law and order in Punjab. The @AAPPunjab government's incapability is evident, but the @IYCPunjab is resolute in our commitment to fight for a safer and better Punjab."

Characterising the protest as an ultimatum to the AAP government, Mohindra emphasised, "Today's protest by @IYCPunjab was more than a demonstration -- it was an ultimatum to @AAPPunjab. The youth of Punjab is vocal, resolute and unyielding in our demand for a safer state."

He added, "We will not be silent; we will fight for our rights and strive to make Punjab a secure haven for all. This is a fight for the future of Punjab."

He shared images from the protest, depicting Youth Congress workers being detained by the police.
