Punjab police has taken over 100 farmer leaders from across the state into preventive custody early Monday morning ahead of Tuesday's protest march. The farmers were about to organise a long march along the Mohali border regarding flood relief and other pending demands. But, a day before the planned agitation, state police detained many top farmer leaders from Ferozepur and Amritsar who were preparing a strategy for the said protest. Police put leaders of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangarsh Committee into preventive detention.

A demonstration was announced in Chandigarh against the AAP-led Punjab government for not providing compensation for the flood victims. However, the police took away the leaders who made the announcement. Police personnel entered the houses of various farmer leaders in Gurdaspur at around 5:30 am. The officials took Sarwan Pandher, the secretary of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangarsh Committee, from his house at 4 am.
