New Delhi: The Punjab cabinet has approved a 10 percent of total compensation to cotton picking farm labourers where cotton crops get affected by Bollworm pest attack, reported PTI. The policy was approved by the Punjab cabinet on Wednesday.
As per the report, cotton crops in districts of Mansa, Sangrur, Bathinda, Sri Muktsar Sahib and Barnala were heavily damaged due to the Pink Bollworm pest attack.
Last month the Punjab government had announced a sum of Rs 416 crores to provide relief to the farmers whose crops were damaged by the Pink Bollworm pest. Out of this amount, 10 percent has been kept as a monetary relief to the cotton picking farm labourers.
The cabinet also deliberated upon the hardships faced by the Scheduled Caste students in the state. This was in relation to the post- matric scholarship for scheduled caste students. The report states that it was highlighted that the 60 percent share that Center is supposed to provide has not been given under this scheme from 2016.
The government decided to bear this liability of remaining 40 percent amounting Rs 433.96 crore. The amount will be released through two installments during the financial years, 2021-22 and 2022-23.
Earlier this month, the Channi government launched ‘Mission Clean’ to curb sand, drug and liquor mafia in the state. The Chief Minister ordered the Deputy Commissioners and Senior Superintendents of the Police of the state to take strict action against people involved in corruption, illicit sale of liquor, sale of drugs and sand mafia.
