New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab Government announced 300 units of free electricity for homes in the state on Saturday. The decision will come into effect from July 1 this year, reported news agency ANI. 


"From 1st July 2022, every household in Punjab will have 300 units of free electricity every month - 600 units for 2 months. BC, BPL, freedom fighters households used to get 200 units of free electricity earlier, they too will now get 300 units free," said Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, reported the news agency. 


 










"Households that consume more than 600 units of electricity in 2 months, for instance - 640 units or 645 units - will need to pay only for the extra 40 or 45 units that they have consumed over and above 600 units," the CM further said. 


Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had on Tuesday met with his Delhi counterpart and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal to discuss a scheme of providing 300 units of free electricity to the people of Punjab. 


Aam Aadmi Party spokesperson, Malwinder Singh Kang had also, after the meeting said that the blueprint for giving 300 units of free electricity to people is almost ready and soon an announcement will be made, news agency PTI had reported.


Providing free electricity was one of the main highlights of the Aam Aadmi Party’s manifesto during recently concluded Punjab Assembly elections which it had won with a sweeping majority, winning 92 out of 117 assembly seats.

Last month, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had rolled out the doorstep ration scheme, another ambitious scheme of the AAP.
