Day After Teens' Reckless Stunt Goes Viral, Pune Police Nab Two After Public Outrage

The Bharti Vidyapeeth Police Station has arrested 27-year-old Mihir Gandhi and his friend 23-year-old Minakshi Salunkhe, while a third person, who made the reel, is absconding.

Day after a video of a man and woman went viral showing the two performing a potentially deadly stunt to record a reel atop a dilapidated temple building, the police have arrested the duo.

The Bharti Vidyapeeth Police Station has arrested 27-year-old Mihir Gandhi and his friend 23-year-old Minakshi Salunkhe, while a third person, who made the reel, is absconding.

“After we got information about the video, we launched investigations and managed to trace them. They were summoned to the police station late last night and placed under arrest. We have charged them under IPC Section 336 and others,” Senior Inspector of Bharti Vidyapeeth Police Station, Dashrath Patil told IANS.

The video of the two persons went viral on social media. The short clip triggered outrage as internet users drew criticism and requested police officials to arrest them. 

However, since the offence is minor with a jail term of less than six months plus a fine or both, they will not be remanded to custody, Dashrath Patil added.

From the viral video, it could be seen that a young girl while filming a reel was seen dangling from the edge of abandoned temple roof, while a boy held her hand from above. Simultaneously, one of their friends was seen filming the reel.

Gandhi was seen lying at the edge of the temple roof and the girl Salunkhe, got down laughing, grabbed his hand and was seen dangling mid-air from a height equivalent to at least a 10-storied building.

Reacting to the video, an X user wrote which translates in English from Maratrhi “Whose climax is wasted now? The central government should immediately enact a law on reel If an accident occurs due to it being made in a public place, a case should be filed for causing the death of the person concerned.”

Another user wrote, "Today's youth who are making reels on their lives have no basic fear and to act like a fool's market in the name of being a hero without regard for their parentage is to risk precious lives for 30-second reels....Devastating counterintelligence."
