New Delhi: Amruta Fadnavis, wife of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, called Prime Minister Narendra Modi the father of New India and added that the country has two ‘Rashtra Pita’ (father of the nation), news agency PTI reported.
While attending an event organised by the writer’s association in Nagpur last week , Amruta Fadnavis, during a mock interview said, "We have two ‘rashtra pita’. Narendra Modi is the father of New India and Mahatma Gandhi is the father of the nation of earlier times."
According to the report, she was asked about her calling PM Modi a Rashtra pita. The interviewer asked her if PM Modi is the Rashtra pita, then who is Mahatma Gandhi to which she said that there are two fathers of the nation, one from this era and one from earlier times.
Notably, on the birthday of PM Narendra Modi, Amruta Fadnavis wished him on Twitter by calling him the father of the country.
Meanwhile, Congress leader and former Maharashtra minister Yashomati Thakur slammed the senior BJP leader's wife over the remarks.
Yashomati said, “People following the BJP and RSS ideology keep trying to kill Gandhiji again and again. They keep doing such things as they are obsessed with changing history by repeating lies and maligning great people like Gandhiji.”

It is to be noted that her remarks come days after Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari was slammed by the Opposition for his remarks about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, follwoing which he clarified his point.
Koshyari wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah explaining his stand and said he would “never even imagine” insulting such icons.

He also added, “I cannot even imagine in my dream insulting icons like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Maharana Pratap, and Shri Guru Govind Singh. You are aware that I do not hesitate to express regrets or apologise immediately even if I unintentionally made a mistake”.
The letter came amid demands by the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance that Koshyari be removed from his post for insulting Shivaji.
