New Delhi: Accusing the Haryana government of discrimination, Congress leaders on Wednesday alleged that the ruling dispensation stopped a party delegation from visiting violence-hit Nuh but allowed a BJP team there, news agency PTI reported. Addressing a meeting organised by the Congress workers in Gurugram, former minister Ajay Singh Yadav accused the BJP government in Haryana of bias.
"Yesterday when senior Congress leaders were going to Nuh to inquire about the condition of the victims, they were stopped, but BJP leaders today have gone there. There is no rule and law for them," PTI quoted Yadav as saying.
According to the report, a 10-member delegation of state Congress was stopped from entering the violence-hit district on Tuesday by the police which cited security issues and curfew in the area.
However, on Wednesday, a team of BJP leaders, led by the party's state chief Om Prakash Dhankhar, that arrived in Nuh to meet administrative officials and take stock of the situation, was not denied entry, Yadav said.
Speaking on the clashes that erupted in Nuh last week, the Congress leader said that the riots occurred due to the "failure of the district administration and the government” to act on the intelligence reports.
According to the report, six people, including two home guards and a cleric, died in the communal clashes that erupted in the district when a procession by Vishva Hindu Parishad was allegedly attacked. The tension later spread to adjoining Gurugram.
"Even before independence, the BJP followed the path of divide and rule with the British and is still following the same. Every class has become unhappy with this dictatorial government," PTI quoted former Congress minister Sukhbir Singh Kataria as saying.
Addressing the meeting, Congress leader Pankaj Davar raised the Manipur issue and slammed the BJP, saying that it was a “strategy” to “spoil the brotherhood”.
