Worli Hit-And-Run: How Friend's Mobile Phone Led To Accused Mihir Shah's Arrest

The son of Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah, Mihir Shah, who was missing following the incident, was caught by the police on Tuesday.

Mumbai Hit And Run Case: Mihir Shah, the main accused in the BMW hit-and-run case that took place in Mumbai’s Worli, was arrested by city police on Tuesday. The son of Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah, Mihir Shah, 24, was missing following the incident that claimed the life of a woman and left her husband injured.

The victims were identified as 45-year-old Kaveri Nakhwa, who died after the incident while her husband Pradeep sustained injuries. The accused allegedly rammed his BMW into a scooter in Worli. The incident occurred on July 7.

The Mumbai Police was able to trace and catch the accused three days following the incident after one of his friends switched on his mobile phone.

Shah, along with his mother and sisters, had switched off their mobile phones, NDTV reported, citing sources. The police were searching for the family members using their car numbers. Shah was driving the car when the accident took place. His driver, Rajrishi Bidawat, who was later arrested, was sitting in the passenger seat. 

According to an India Today report, Shah called his father, Rajesh Shah, and informed him about the incident. Rajesh Shah told his son to leave the city and said that the driver would take the blame for the incident.

Afterwards, Mihir called up his girlfriend and went to her home in Goregaon in an autorikshaw, as per the India Today report. According to NDTV, the police said that the accused left the BMW near Kala Nagar in Bandra.

The police said that Mihir Shah called his girlfriend 40 times on the morning of July 7, as per the India Today report. After reaching his girlfriend’s house, the accused slept there for two hours and informed her about the incident and the woman's death. She then called his elder sister, Pooja, who is also her business partner. 

After receiving the information about the incident, Pooja went to the Goregaon home and brought Mihir back to their Borivali residence. According to the India Today report, Mihir, Pooja, younger sister Kinjal, mother Meena, and friend Avdeep left for Yeoor Hills resort in Thane West in two cars. 

Later, all of them left for another resort in Murbad after a few hours. On Monday evening, Mihir and his friend Avdeep, who was also on the radar of the police, left for a resort in Virar Phata, while the others stayed at the Murbad resort. On Tuesday morning, Avdeep switched on his mobile phone for just 15 minutes, which allowed the police to catch him and Mihir at the resort in Virar Phata.
