New Delhi: A tribal woman was thrashed by a group of villagers in Madhya Pradesh's Dewas district for allegedly having an extra-marital affair. The woman was also paraded after being made to carry her husband on her shoulders, police said on Monday. The incident came to light after a video went viral on social media in which a group of men was seen thrashing the woman.

According to the police, the woman's husband was seen beating her mercilessly in front of the villagers and later the woman was forced to lift the husband on her shoulders. The villagers were also seen putting garlands of shoes on her.

The woman (30) was punished for her alleged relationship with another man. Police said the woman was missing for three-four days and was later found with a male friend. This enraged her husband and the people of the community and they decided to punish the woman.

Nine people, including the victim's husband, have been arrested and booked for assault, rioting, outraging a woman's modesty and criminal intimidation, police said on Monday. The incident was reported to have happened on Sunday but it was revealed on Monday.
