A man has been arrested in Maharashtra's Thane for allegedly killing his 4-year-old stepson. According to PTI, the child was subjected to severe physical torture, which led to his death.
A police official told PTI that the accused, identified as Dilshad, was arrested late Monday night, and a case was registered under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Chitalsar police station.
After separating from her former husband, the victim’s mother married Dilshad. The woman brought her son, Mohammad Aryan, from Kolkata a few weeks ago to live with them. The police said the man was unaware of her child from the previous marriage until he was brought to Thane.
Dilshad was reportedly unhappy with the child, which created tension between the couple. He refused to take responsibility for the child.
On Sunday, the police had registered a case of accidental death after the demise of the child. However, an autopsy revealed signs of severe physical abuse. The child's ribs and bones were broken at multiple points, and there were signs of internal injuries in his abdomen. A case of murder was subsequently registered.
Tamil Nadu Woman Kills Infant Granddaughter
Earlier this month, a Tamil Nadu woman allegedly killed her year-old granddaughter over suspicions her daughter-in-law was having an affair. The incident took place in the Ariyalur district. The 60-year-old accused reportedly suspected the granddaughter was born out of an illicit affair.
The grandmother allegedly fed the infant sand, while the daughter-in-law was out on an errand run. When the mother returned, she found her baby unconscious. The child was rushed to a hospital where she was declared brought dead. Following hours of questioning, the grandmother finally confessed to killing the infant. She told the police that the child had thrown sand at her brother, and, in a fit of rage, she force-fed the child sand.
